Today we would like to welcome a very respected, well known Call of Duty 4 team. The team who have formerly played for the organisation KnightS* for 8 months have decided that they were not providing sufficient support.[break]

SkitLite have been searching for the right COD4 team for a few months now, and it has seemed like an impossible task to get a team that fits our organisation, then KnightS approched..

The organisation knew as soon as the team applied that this was going to lead to something good, with team scope Andrew "Shuya" Gormely having worked and played for SkitLite in the past. After extensive talks with the team SkitLite decided to take things further.

The team is going to be attending multiple LAN events in the 2012 period under the SKITLITE name, and SKITLITE believe with their support that the team will finish with nothing less than first place.

SKITLITE CEO & Founder Matt "nexz" Wright had this to say about the new team -

"I am delighted to have a team in SKITLITE that we can actually put full confidence in to do well and represent us at a top level. This team has potential to become one of the best teams on the game, I am sure you will be hearing of these guys a lot throughout 2012!"

Team captain "Ctaz" had this to say -

"We are delighted to join a respected organisation like Skitlite. And would like to thank everyone who made this possible for us. I speak for the rest of the team when i say we hope to have a very long stay and we're sure we will achieve some great things on which the rest of the organisation can be proud of.

The new SKITLITE.CoD4 Line up stands as -

Having recently won the recent EGL4 event on PS3 the SkitLite.PS3 team have decided it is time for a step up and a change. Now that they have switched to Xbox to persue their gaming careers further the team have also decided that in order to keep the standard up they are making a team change.[break]

(Auto resize: show original)

Ced playing at EGL4 London

The team feeling wasn’t quite there on Xbox as some players took better to the console than others. Unfortuantely at the other end of the stick was Dean “TheDean” Fuller who from today will be released from SkitLite. Although we are sad to see Dean go we are excited to announce the addition of the newest player on the SkitLite roster! From today we are happy to announce that Ex-Imperial & Roughnex PS3 player Cedrick “Ced” Odompleh will be taking Deans place and he fits in perfectly with the team! All 4 of the players are on the same boat as they are all going from PS3 to fulfil their 360 careers and we here at SkitLite are happy to be a part of these player’s gaming future.

As Dean was the team captain before the change was made Ian “RidicaL” Ridley has confirmed that he will step in to take over the role of captaincy. He also had this to say about the change –

"After we began scrimming on xbox it became evident to our team that a change sadly had to be made for us to be able to push to the next step which we wanted to achieve, this means that we had to say good bye to our old team mate Dean. We thought of a few people we would like to scrim with to see how they fitted in with our team and a name which stuck with us all was Ced. As soon as Ced jumped into a couple scrims with us we could see that there was a huge improvement with how the team played. This led to use quickly picking up Ced and he finalised our roster, I believe this is definitely the step in the right direction for our team and can see Ced fitting in well."

Ced had this to say about joining the team -

"After leaving RNX I haven’t felt fully up for playing competitively but when approached by Skitlite I felt it was a good opportunity to get back into playing."

SkitLite will no longer be supporting PS3 until further notice as this team will now become the SkitLite.360 team.
The line up stands as –

SKITLITE EMERGE FROM THE SWARM WITH A NEW SC2 TEAM

After the emergence of possible the biggest eSports title on PC it seemed appropriate to find a manager who had experienced the game at the highest level. The addition of MLG picking up the game on the circuit competitive Starcraft is like any other sport. The players are worshipped and followed by thousands of screaming fans and we are excited to announce the acquisition of a manager and team who can take Skitlite to new heights in this department. [break]

(Auto resize: show original)

The first man who will lead us to new found glory in the SC2 arena is RJ “Artunit” Go. Having been around since the Starcraft:Broodwar days he has the experience and knowledge of the game to know how to motivate and advise our new squad of players who some have joined due to RJ’s management. A list of organisations as long as his arm RJ has worked with some of the best organisations to grace the console and PC scene such as Fnatic and ButtonBashers and all the skills gained in these positions will help Skitlite do the best it can in the SC2 community.

RJ “Artunit” Go gave his thoughts and the opinions of the new squad.
“I am very happy to join Skitlite, my goal is to have a team who has a family feeling while staying competitive and Skitlite has given me an opportunity to build my “ dream team “. I am very excited for this new challenge and behalf of my players, we will do our best to represent Skitlite on Starcraft 2.”

Now let’s welcome the players who will help Skitlite branch out into the PC Starcraft community. First up we have Viktor "Septerran" Fröcklin hailing from Sweden he who holds the pivotal position of captain and is vital to the team’s success as organisation is one of the major factors in team games. Achievements such as in 3rd place in the ESL Night cup we are confident the team will do great things.
He had this to say about joining our organisation.

“I decided to join Skitlite because Rj was the manager and previous experience with him at the helm has helped us all and it would pretty much be the same as our old team, but better.”

Next up we have fellow countrymen Morgan "Pulimuli" Backteman. After competing in a number of ESL night cups Morgan claimed first place beating a variety of well known players to become the victor. A first place finish is always a boost to a player and we hope Morgan can have further success under the Skitlite banner.
Morgan also spoke about the move.

“What influenced me to join was "RJ" as the manager and also that i know the other members such as septerran from teaming with them in the past and the team chemistry would be very hard to build again.

The 3rd player in this illustrious write up is Johannes Sabroe “Joe“ Witt former SK Gaming player. A series of high placings in online tournaments and a foray into the Coppenhagen cup has given us high expectations at future events. Placing 1st in the 43st Go4SC2 Cup and 2nd place in the 20th craft cup he has shown his potential. A player with a dedication to SC2 many players lack he already attended the Copenhagen cup so look out for him at future events.

Commenting on the switch to Skitlite Johannes ventured his opinion on why he joined the SC2 squad here.
“I joined Skitlite mainly because my relationship with Artunit, we been working together for quite some time now and also with other players like Septerran and Cr1sty. It’s great to have a team whom you are comfortable with.”

Completing the transfers is final member of the squad Datcu “Cr1sty“ Cristian having the same roster all the way through the beta it would make sense that they all wish to stay together. After lots of success including a 3rd place finish StarCraftII.ro Invitational taking home a Microsoft Life Cam HD he has proved his calibre. As well as this he came third in the StarCraftII.ro Invitational tournament taking home 125 euros for his trouble. Along with a whole host of other achievements usually within the top 3 he has set the SC2 alight and struck fear into his opponents. Another factor going in his favour is his LAN experience in which he as attended 3 Romanian LANS to get a taste of the heated atmosphere.

Datcu commented on his move to our new SC2 squad.

“To be honest, the main reason was Artunit. A man that i always love working with and also the other players that joined. We played together in team RAGE even from Beta and we stayed together till now. So i think this a very big factor.”

Matt "nexz" Wright had this to say about the whole change.

"We have been intending to expand into Starcraft for a while now and I am glad we have had the opportunity to do so with Rj. He is a great manager and I know we will achieve big things with him. Things are already starting to look up for the organisation following this change in teams!"

We would like to welcome the SC2 squad to our ranks and we will enjoy watching them grow with the organisation.

WHY IS SOPA A BAD THING FOR GAMING

Why should you care about SOPA?

The Internet Blacklist bills, “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA) and the “PROTECT IP Act” (PIPA) are severe bills which will negatively impact everyone in the online community. So in the spirit of raising awareness I'll explain what SOPA and PIPA are and why we as gamers should care.[break]

These two bills were introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011, their purpose being to halt illegal piracy of copyrighted content. SOPA would allow copyright holders to seek court orders against any websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. It has been theorised that the ridiculousness of SOPA is there to present PIPA as a less harsh compromise. But the reality is that they are both endorsing censorship as a solution to piracy and neither deserve to pass.

Should these bills pass what they will effectively do is give the power of internet policing to copyright holders. Internet service providers, ad networks and payment providers could be potentially liable for any infringement caused by their users. The pressure our service providers will be under will be so great they will have to implement harsh new security pre-cautions that will incur negative effects on the user.

The vague language used in this legislation means that sites may have to remove content or stop their services based on a mere accusation from copyright holders.

Infringement will always be a legitimate issue, but it's an issue that's often effectively dealt with by offering a superior service or by altering ones business model. We can take Valve as a case study for this with their successful as Gabe Newell aptly puts it, “In general, we think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem [...]”. This level of censorship is not the answer.

This may well be US litigation but as you can imagine the majority of services we use are hosted in the US. If for example a site that is outside the US is found to be infringing copyright then they will blacklist the DNS of that site within the US meaning people within the US won't be able to access it. These sites will experience less traffic and won't get any ad revnue from ad services that are based in the US.

The biggest things we as gamers would notice is:

- Streaming, the thing that has revolutionised online gaming in so many ways in the last year would be dead or it would become very underground. No longer would it be a way of making any ad revenue to support the growth of our respective communities.

- User-generated content would be no more. The services we use to host such content like YouTube, TwitchTV, Reddit, Own3dTV etc, would be under huge pressure and risk of being shut down at any moment.

If you are an American you can do your bit in the fight and write to your congressman about the injustice of SOPA and PIPA here.

If you don't know what to write you can use this list (the full version of this post can be found here):

- SOPA gives individuals and corporations unprecedented power to silence speech online. Under SOPA, individuals and corporations could send a notice to a site's payment partners, requiring those partners to cut the site off – even if the site could never be held liable for infringement in a U.S. Court.

- SOPA gives the government even more power to censor. The Attorney General can “disappear” websites by creating a blacklist and requiring service providers (such as search engines and domain services) to block the sites on the list.

- SOPA uses vague language that is sure to be abused. The bill targets nearly any site that hosts user-generated content, or even just has a search function, by failing to provide protections for legal speech.

- SOPA would not stop online piracy. The powerful tools granted to the Attorney General would present major obstacles to casual users, but would be trivial for dedicated and technically savvy users to circumvent.

Thank you for reading, should you wish to follow constant updates about the progress of SOPA, you can goto www.reddit.com/r/SOPA to find out more.

After extensive talks with manager Matt, our newest addition to the Academy division can finally be announced after the roster was finalised today. This new squad is from the United Kingdom and will represent SkitLite on Modern Warfare 3 for Xbox 360. Like our Swedish academy team, they will be looking to attend the European eSports Event in Stockholm next month and hope to surprise a few people considering the potential they have.[break]

The roster:
Tom 'Shiftyy' Greenwood
Tom 'Tuna' Chattaway
Daryl 'Crown' McGhie
Archibald 'Archie' Collings

Archie (left) with Fariko Chaos at ReflexGT5, where he placed an impressive 10th place with Crown.

The squad brings a wealth of LAN experience with them, considering they are fairly young in terms of their presence on the scene. Shiftyy has attended ECL2, ECL3 and EGL4, however the other three, Tuna, Crown and Archie, have all attended ReflexGT, with Crown and Archie bringing home 10th place at ReflexGT5 as part of Team Domito, which also consisted of ex-SkitLite player, Sway. Tuna has also played at ReflexGT as part of Team Reflex.

Team captain Shiftyy had this to say upon his acceptance to SkitLite Gaming:
"A huge thanks to Matt for giving us this opportunity. This is an exciting prospect for us, as we're one of the first academy teams to be picked up. We can't wait to see what we can do under the SkitLite name, and as a team, we can't wait to start working with this organisation, considering I have had the opportunity to build a stable relationship with the management team during my time as a staff member here at SkitLite. Hopefully we can pull off some impressive results at future events and bring home some placements that SkitLite can be proud of."

As this team consists of players from the United Kingdom, they will obviously be attending LAN events on home soil. EGL5 and the Insomnia series are on the cards for the team in a few months time, but they hope to attend EEE in February, despite deciding to attend at such short notice. They still have high hopes for a decent placement, however.

The management team has great confidence in this new team and they are popular amongst both our community and the eSports community in general. They get on well with the other MW3 squads, although there is a friendly rivalry between our three Xbox teams! We wish them the best of luck in the future.

SKITLITE OPEN ACADEMY DIVISION

After a lot of thought of discussion SkitLite Gaming have decided to now open an academy division, rather than just supporting the professionally ranked teams. Academy teams aren't quite community teams in as such they have to have proven themselves slightly and shown a bit more potential for success where as community teams are more for lower skilled gamers getting the experience of playing for an organisation.[break]

The change came as I (nexz) felt that we should support as many teams as we can to help the community grow and get the competitive scene spread out across more gamers. SkitLite believes that the change will not only help SkitLite grow as a brand but also help the gaming community expand out further, getting more people involved in competitive gaming.

To apply for a position as an academy team please send your application to nexz@skitlite-gaming.eu

*Please note we are not taking in any more MW3 Academy teams*

Today as it comes, SkitLite Gaming are pleased to announce the addition of yet another console team. The team consisting of a French & Belgian roster will be taking the SkitLite name to events across France, England, Holland and Belgium. Having not had the best luck on the Xbox LAN scene we hope to change this by taking another route than a UK team to help us achieve more outside of the UK.[break]
With vast experience in past organisations such as iN7 and many others, SkitLite have full confidence in this team to be one of the most successful teams to ever wear the SkitLite tag. These players are the first French players to ever be in SkitLite and we are glad to see the start of a new era and add another nationality to the SkitLite gaming roster sheet.
Matt ‘nexz’ Wright had this to say about the new pick up –

“I am glad this team approached us because in all honesty I would have never thought of going to a French team, but with both the management and the team gelling straight away it was clear to both myself and Hopez that this was to be the next team for us! We can’t wait to see how they progress in the future as a team.”

Belgian player Olivier ‘oLLiEboX’ Hion said this about joining –

“We are very happy to be joining such an organisation like SKITLITE. We will do our very best to represent the org on the FR and EU gaming scene. We can't wait to attend a LAN under the SKITLITE colors. I really want to thanks the staff for their thrust, we won't disappoint!”

After an impressive 7th place finish at ECL3 Loughborough, SkitLite have decided to pick up Tim 'Arcanewinds' Seabrook for the second time after the organisation decided to move away from the Starcraft scene for a considerable amount of time. Considering Tim's previous placements and his performances in a SkitLite shirt in the past, there is no doubt amongst the management team that he is a promising prospect for future EGL and Insomnia series events.[break]
Tim preparing to face Dignitas_PuReBall Starcraft player at ECL3

20 year old Tim was formerly a Halo 3 player, but his Starcraft achievements give a strong indication of his ability and the reason behind why SkitLite were so confident in picking him up. He has attended four Insomnia Series Events for Starcraft, with an impressive 12th place at i42. Despite interest from other organisations, Tim felt SkitLite was the right organisation for him, having been a part of the team before.

Tim will also be playing online tournaments, aswell as offline and we wish him the best of luck. Confidence is high that our newest addition can bring home some great placements. Make sure to keep an eye on him!
